Children’s Services Mediation Program (Government of Alberta)
This free government program provides mediation services to families who are already involved with Children’s Services. If you already have a caseworker, reach out to them if you are interested in this program.
Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) (Government of Alberta)
This free government program collects court-ordered child support and spousal/partner support, and enforces payment as needed. To access services, you must have an order or agreement about child support.
Indigenous Courtwork Program (Native Counselling Services of Alberta)
Court workers in courthouses across Alberta provide free services to Indigenous people. Services include information about court and Children’s Services investigations and referrals to other support programs.

Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC)
This free service helps you to navigate the family justice system and provides legal information and referral on all areas of family law. ECLC serves Edmonton and area and northern Alberta. Those who are financially eligible will have access to free 30 to 45-minute legal advice coaching appointments with a volunteer lawyer.
Student Legal Services (SLS)
Law students can give you legal information about issues under the Family Law Act. They can also review your uncontested divorce application at their Do-Your-Own Divorce Clinics or represent you as an agent in the Alberta Court of Justice. Whether you are eligible for services also depends on your income.
Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG)
Volunteer lawyers can give you 30 to 45 minutes of free legal support about many family law issues. CLG also hosts Do-Your-Own Divorce Clinics. Law students can give you legal information about issues under the Family Law Act. They can also represent you as an agent in the Alberta Court of Justice. There is a one-time application fee of $50. Whether you are eligible for services also depends on your income.

Volunteer lawyers can give you 30 minutes of free legal support about many family law issues. The clinic can’t help if you qualify for Legal Aid, unless you have an issue that Legal Aid can’t help. Whether you are eligible for services also depends on your income.
Ask-a-Lawyer (Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic)
Volunteer lawyers can give you 20 minutes of free legal support about many family law issues. These events are usually at public libraries and are first-come, first-served. Due to the large number of people, the clinic can’t guarantee an appointment.
