Family Court Assistance (Government of Alberta)
This free government program connects you to family court counsellors who can help you prepare for and access the court system. This program is mandatory for anyone in Edmonton or Calgary who does not have a lawyer and is going to the Court of Justice or the Court of King’s Bench.
Child Support Recalculation Program (Government of Alberta)
This free government program can update the amount of child support a parent must pay based on their income. To access services, you must have an order or agreement about child support.
Child Support Resolution Program (Government of Alberta)
This free government program helps parents reach an agreement about financial support for their children and get a court order for support. This service is only available in Edmonton and Calgary.
Family Mediation (Government of Alberta)
This free government program provides mediation services to parents who have at least one dependent child. Both parents must agree to participate in the program, and each parent must register.
Children’s Services Mediation Program (Government of Alberta)
This free government program provides mediation services to families who are already involved with Children’s Services. If you already have a caseworker, reach out to them if you are interested in this program.
Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) (Government of Alberta)
This free government program collects court-ordered child support and spousal/partner support, and enforces payment as needed. To access services, you must have an order or agreement about child support.
Lloydminster Community Legal Clinic
Volunteer lawyers can give you 30 minutes of free legal support about many family law issues. The clinic can’t help if you qualify for Legal Aid, unless you have an issue that Legal Aid can’t help with. Whether you are eligible for services also depends on your income.
